South African Institute of Physics

The South African Institute of Physics (SAIP) was founded in 1955 and is a non-profit Learned Society and professional body whose main role is to promote research, teaching and application of physics in South Africa.

The SAIP has a long and proud history of community outreach such as upskilling of teachers and has always valued its contribution on national Government science policy. The institute is registered with the South African National Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and offers professional certification.

The SAIP is the national adhering body to the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) as well as to the International Union of Pure and Applied Biophysics (IUPAB).
